Senior Development Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Development Engineer to join the team working on leading-edge Caesium Iodide (CsI) scintillation products.

This is a Product and Process development role that would ideally suit a Physicist / Materials Scientist with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the vacuum deposition of Thin Film Materials. Scintacor is a world leader in phosphor and scintillation technologies. Our products allow the conversion of many different invisible radiations into visible light for imaging and detection applications.

We are located on the Cambridge Commercial Park – close to Cambridge North Rail station for easy commuting.

Essential

  • Hands-on experience of vacuum deposition including familiarity with control, automation, and data capture.
  • Excellent analysis, reporting and presentation skills,
  • A good degree in Physics / Materials Science or similar,
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in process development within a technically challenging environment – with an emphasis on vacuum deposition of thin-film materials,
  • Demonstrable track record of structured and methodical problem solving,
  • Ability to write clear Work Instructions to transfer new processes to the Production team,
  • Versatility to work effectively, on our wide product range – both independently and as part of a close-knit, multi-disciplinary team,

Desirable

  • Experience of X-ray scintillation materials – particularly CsI,
  • Commercial awareness,
  • Excellent communications skills, including communicating to a range of technical and non-technical audiences,
  • Cleanroom process experience including conformal coatings, X-ray testing,
  • Attention to detail and a critical eye for product quality,
  • experience in device/product development, from concept to manufacturing,

Responsibilities

This role will involve product and process development of (primarily) CsI X-ray scintillator products although the ideal candidate will be able to transfer their skills across the range of our products. Process development will include developing new processes, bringing new equipment online and upgrading existing equipment to improve product performance, process reliability and manufacturing capacity. You will be responsible for transferring processes improvements into production and providing hands-on problem solving support to our production team.You will be involved in the production and supply of sample products to customers for trials ahead of transfer into manufacturing – this will involve manufacturing samples on time and to specification, reporting test results to customers, and responding to their feedback.

Development Engineer

  • 3D CAD (SolidWorks),
  • A good degree in an Engineering / Science discipline,
  • Experience of jig & tooling design,
  • Structured and methodical problem solving,
  • Versatility to work effectively, on our wide product range – both independently and as part of a close-knit, multi-disciplinary team,
  • Ability to set up and maintain a drawing document control system,
  • 3-5 years of experience of process development within a technically challenging environment,
  • Good reporting and presentation skills,
  • Ability to write clear Work Instructions to transfer processes to the Production team,
  • The ability to communicate effectively with potential customers,

Responsibilities

SolidWorks skills and sound mechanical design experience will be an essential part of this job, with the ability to produce robust designs and drawings and to communicate with suppliers and customers.

You will be involved in the production and supply of sample products to customers for trials ahead of transfer into manufacturing – this will involve manufacturing samples on time and to specification, reporting test results to customers, and responding to their feedback.

You will also be able to set up and maintain a suitable document control system for all of our mechanical drawings.
