Development Engineer – X-ray imaging Physicist- system and software development


We are looking for a Development Engineer/Physicist to join the team working on leading edge scintillation products. This is a Process development role that would ideally suit a Software / Electronics Engineer with 3 – 5 years relevant experience that includes working knowledge of characterising X-ray images.  The ideal candidate will have mechanical and electrical skills to enable them to continuously improve existing imaging systems.

Scintacor is a world leader in phosphor and scintillation technologies. Our products allow the conversion of many different invisible radiations into visible light for imaging and detection applications.

We are located on the Cambridge Commercial Park – close to Cambridge North Rail station for easy commuting.



  • Software programming skills (Matlab / Python) for image processing,
  • Knowledge of typical image characterisation parameters e.g SNR / DQE
  • Image processing skills for defect detection,
  • A degree in an Engineering / Science discipline,
  • Structured and methodical problem solving,
  • Attention to detail and a critical eye for product quality,
  • Versatility to work effectively, on our wide product range – both independently and as part of a close-knit, multi-disciplinary team,
  • 3-5 years experience of process development within a technically challenging environment,
  • Good reporting and presentation skills,
  • Ability to write clear Work Instructions to transfer processes to the Production team,
  • The ability to communicate effectively with potential customers,
  • Experience of jig & tooling design,


  • Experience of X-ray scintillation materials,
  • Commercial awareness,
  • Structured and methodical problem solving,
  • Cleanroom process experience including X-ray testing,
  • Experience of supporting & maintain X-ray equipment,
  • Knowledge of Radiation Protection legislation

This role will involve process development of (primarily) X-ray scintillator imaging software although the ideal candidate will be able to transfer their skills for use across the range of our products.  This software will be used to characterise and validate our existing products and will involve regular contact with the production team as new products are introduced.

You will be involved in the development and use of imaging software and systems to support our technical and production teams – this will involve measuring samples on time against agreed specifications, reporting test results to customers, and responding to their feedback.

Hands-on experience of designing electrical / mechanical systems would be an advantage when developing imaging systems.

  • Proactively identify those opportunities for cross-selling / up-selling and contact customers to grow the business
  • Identify market and customers for our new and evolving product range
  • Maintains accurate records and statistics for internal reporting
  • Attend internal and external meetings and keep concise minutes of relevant topics of discussion and actions
  • Ensure all actions agreed are completed by the agreed timescales
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency of the business
  • To assist in updating and managing website content if required
